Our Team

Sara graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst cum laude in 2008, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa National Academic Honor Society.  She attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated cum laude in 2013.  

After graduating law school, Sara served as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court of Massachusetts, and was assigned to assist the Justices in both Plymouth and Barnstable Counties.  In 2021, Sara founded the Law Offices of Sara J. Kohls, located in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, where she focuses her practice on probate litigation, civil litigation, and criminal defense. As part of her criminal defense practice, Sara serves as a Bar Advocate in Barnstable County, where she is certified to represent indigent criminal defendants. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.

In 2021-2022, Sara was selected as a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star, an honor that is given to only 2.5% of Massachusetts attorneys.  She was named a “40 under 40” winner in 2017 by Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine. She is the co-founder and past president of the Barnstable County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Bar Association, which she has done since 2019.  She is a graduate of the 2017 class of the Community Leadership Institute (CLI) of Cape Cod.  Sara has been an active volunteer and Board Member with Cape Cod Young Professionals since 2014. She served as the Board President from 2020 until 2022 and ex officio from 2022 until 2023. Her past leadership roles include the CCYP Events Connect Committee and chairing the 2018 Shape Your Cape Summit Committee. An avid animal lover, she has done extensive volunteer work for the MSPCA Cape Cod.  Sara served as a member of the Town of Yarmouth’s Finance Committee from 2019 until 2021.  

In her free time, Sara enjoys spending time with her husband and son, reading, and running.
